Over the holidays, Offscreen Magazine dropped me a line about profiling me for a small feature in their first issue. The only catch was it had to be done by Christmas—and I needed a good portrait photo! Luckily, developer extraordinaire and secret photography pro Zach Holman was still in the city and ready to save the day. (The holiday, even!)

This is the photo I chose; you can see a couple more in my Facebook album here. I suspect Offscreen is going to be a very beautiful bit of print and am quite excited for the first issue. (By the way, I believe they’re still looking for sponsors!)

Dev:Unplugged HTML5 App Contest

Microsoft is running an HTML5 app-building contest called Dev: Unplugged with some killer prizes, including a grand prize of $9,000 in cash and a fully-loaded trip to Future of Web Apps. The two categories, gaming and music, come with some sweet licensed content—Hellboy (woo!) and two fantastic tracks by AWOLNATION and Ra Ra Riot.

I’m on the judging panel and will be selecting a winner to receive a special award for Most Innovative Design and UX. The prize is an Eee Slate and the beautiful Internet Case Study and Guidelines for Online Success books! All the prizes, by the way, are amazing.

Want to learn more? Check out the Dev:Unplugged site for contest details and entry instructions!

Had a grand ol’ time doing my first live Q&A session with Nick this morning. We’ll be doing these weekly on Tuesdays at 12PM EST (Carsonified channel) with a few different members of the Carsonified team cycling in, including Nick Pettit, Jim Hoskins, Ryan Carson, Mike Kus, and me!
